'Stepping Out'

Date: Wednesday 3rd September 2008
Time: 19:30 (Doors open at 19:00)

It’s 1983, Shergar kidnapped, Blackadder and Roland Rat on television, shoulder pads and sweatbands are in, as is Margaret Thatcher for a second term in office. Anti nuclear demos are peaking. Michael Jackson and Boy George are riding high in the charts. CD players and “My Little Pony” are in the shops.

In the midst of all this - join nine slightly dysfunctional women and one shy man in a church hall; as they laugh, cry, shout and dance their way through a weekly evening class in tap. By turns hilarious and sometimes poignant, we learn more about each one as the story progresses and join them on their own personal journeys – who will you identify with? Can Sylvia work out right from left in time? Will Rose’s hair look all right on the night? Surely Maxine will get the hats sorted soon? Will Geoffrey ever exert his manly influence? And will Vera abandon her Marigolds and bleach for the bright lights?

In the end, their labours are rewarded and so are the audience as the fledgling performers metamorphose into “The Mavis Turner Tappers” in a triumphant guest appearance at a local Charity Show.

The final performance of 'Stepping Out' this season !

A great fun evening with genuine laughs and terpsichorean treats!
