New Year Season 2021
Sterts Theatre is looking for Artistic Directors to direct their exciting programme of plays and musicals for the Summer Festival season 2021.
Sterts is one of the UK's most unusual theatrical settings: a 400-seat amphitheatre nestling on the grassy side of Bodmin Moor, in the open Cornish air, yet protected from summer rain by a massive permanent canopy. With a wide and varied programme of events throughout the year from top name comedians, professional touring companies and concerts, it is the talented and enthusiastic local performers that make the Sterts Festival Season the highlight of the year.
The Sterts Summer Festival main programme consists of Shrek the Musical by Lindsey-Abaire & Tresori, and a Classic play that can be proposed by the director, (see below). We are very pleased to be able to confirm that Mark Sidey will be directing Wendy & Peter Pan by Ella Hickson which was originally programmed for 2020.
Role and Responsibilities
We are looking for directors who have the attributes and experience to be able to fulfil the role, meeting the following responsibilities. You will recognise the repercussions of the reduced 2020 season sympathetically and be flexible as we re-start Sterts post Covid 19. These are paid roles.
We are seeking directors and a musical director for Shrek the Musical.
·You will direct, providing a creative and clear vision which you will translate into public performances striving towards a professionally high standard.
· You will demonstrate good management skills through well planned rehearsal scheduling, timely production meetings, budgeting and problem solving. You will organise and lead a production team, recruiting and delegating the necessary roles with clarity, consistency and within a realistic time frame.
·You must have excellent communication and people skills, guiding a cast and crew with widely varying degrees of skill and experience. You will be responsible for developing a positive and stimulating rehearsal environment supporting the ethos that the journey towards performance is as important as the performance itself.
·You will work closely with the Centre Director who will be overseeing the season to ensure a consistently high standard across the festival programme.
·The musical director will sign up to these aspirations and provide professional musicianship, advice and guidance to non-professional performers and support the director.
The 2021 Season Classic
We are looking for a right’s free classic title where the director can propose their own ideas working within the parameters that Sterts sets. Please contact Peter Woodward, initially by e.mail to email@example.com for a discussion before you submit a proposal.
Auditions are w/c 8th February and rehearsals will begin in March and will take place at Sterts (or nearby venues) on weekday evenings and weekends. We will schedule rehearsal days, wherever possible, through negotiation between the successful applicants. Directors are expected to be available throughout the summer season. We have full Covid Secure status and directors will have to be fully familiar with this before work starts.
If you feel you meet all of the above criteria and would like to be considered for one of the director positions please send a CV and a covering letter of around 500 words outlining your vision for the show of your choice, if you are applying for the role of MD on Shrek then we would like a CV please? These should be sent to Peter Woodward firstname.lastname@example.org or if you would like an informal discussion and more information about the role or the season please contact Peter Woodward on the same e.mail. Deadline for applications is midday Friday 22nd January and interviews will take place the following week
